"Better to Reign in Hell than Serve in Heaven" Lucifer in Paradise Lost by John Milton - This work speaks strictly of the Evil, not Evil in abstract philosophical sense, the work is referring to a theme we face every day: the Evil that humans do each others. The painting is inspired, but not dedicated, to those who cheat, lie, steal and kill. All those who believe their gain more important even of other people life , those who convert their earthly passage in a prey. The female figure is their patron, a kind of Antichrist, an Antimadonna nurturing her child with blood to feed the Revenge. Evil is always alive because it has the ability to feed on itself. Symbolically it born when Cain killed Abel, and since then the blood line has continued as the offense engenders a kind of hungriness that calms only with revenge. Philosophy teaches us that Evil is a relative thing, but, when we suffer it personally, it loses its character of relativity to get the Absolute ! The concept of forgiveness is not capable to break this vicious cycle, I personally don't believe in the sincerity of Human Forgiveness. "Forgiveness" is just the Superego censoring The Unconscious, in other words , an ethically correct humbug. The painting is not intended to offend religion. I used religious symbols being universally known and act as referential to concepts I wanted to express. At last the picture is not blasphemous ...but life it is !
