About The Artwork
This drawing/painting takes its theme from these dark Covid times. It is a visceral work and a reductive process - the image was scratched in with small pieces of sandpaper to remove an initial dark acrylic layer and allow the light sepia ground to come through. The pressure of the sandpaper marks controlled the tonal values, then I used thin transparent washes of primary colors when it was necessary to re-darken areas. The process suited the theme, it is raw and expressive, not delicate or detailed.
