VIEW IN MY ROOM
This painting is part of the series “Marassa” which was inspired in one of the most popular Haitian voodoo gods. Generally a set of twins or triplets and the youngest in the voodoo realms, Marassa represent faith, hope and charity. Marassa are known for their great magical powers and their pure emotions good or bad. I believe there is a Marassa in all Haitian children, as emotions cannot be purer as in the gaze of an Haitian kid. Despite the scarcity of almost any basic resources in their lives, Haitian children have the ability to transform everything around them and fill life with faith, hope and charity. Each painting of the Marassa series is named after an Haitian kid that has had an impact in my life, as my symbolic way to celebrate and remember them by.
