This is the second series from an ongoing set of paintings that looks into the expression of man and woman through symbolic colour and shape. 'Woman' is represented by a square and ‘Man’ is represented by a line. These universal shapes have been given meaning by the artist and are placed in an abstract landscape of equally balanced sky and earth. The use of colour is used to evoke certain feelings and atmospheres and inspiration for this particular work comes from the artists life long fascination with minimalism, symbolism and colour theory. These are original works and are painted in acrylic where attention to colour harmony is critical and the hard-edge lines are immaculately executed. Finally, they are painted on paper because the fragility of this material represents the condition of human non-permanence. Other technical notes: The surface of the paintings are slightly revealing of brush stroke textures but also appears flat depending on the lighting conditions. Art work: Original acrylic painting on weight paper. * The paper art works are mounted and pressed to 3 mm wooden board so they are completely flat and protected by shatter proof 'ultra-clear' acrylic glazing * Individual painting dimensions: 60 x 46 x 0.1 cm Frame size outside edge to edge 65 x 52 cm Frame: Black finish / no glass Gallery wrapped and protected with acid free packaging materials. My interest in art started at an early age. I remember seeing books at home where I grew up in the 1970's. The books were about impressionism, surrealism and my favourite showed art from the DADA movement. In my teens I became obsessed with Andy Warhol and it was at this point that I realised making art was what I wanted to do. The Paintings you see on my Saatchi Art platform are in chronological order. The first paintings were made in 2018. They were created very precisely and accurately and are influenced by minimalist ideas. Through 2019 my work moved away from minimalist abstractions and started to veer more towards an expressionist style. Through 2020 and going into 2021, I am exploring ideas that attempt to strike a balance between a minimalist mindset and the spontaneity of an expressionist. The paintings are created using acrylic on heavyweight paper and sometimes I use charcoal, graphite and oil pastel. In the next few month I will be starting to execute my larger paintings on canvas.
