About The Artwork

When I was a little girl, I was brought to church every Sunday. My eyes would wander around the church in awe of the stained glass windows and the crosses depicting Christ's crucifixion. As I grew older, I often wondered what the mother of Christ, Mary, felt as she watched her son die. When I had children of my own, I suddenly realized how barbaric it must have been for Mary to watch the death of her own son. As a parent, we want to protect our children from all pain. This painting depicts the ultimate sadness Mary must have felt as she watched her son die. The cubism effect reflects the confusion many of us feel as we try to accept our faith at times and make sense of mankind's propensity for violence. I painted this out of respect for the Virgin Mary and for all mothers throughout time who have cried for their children. I usually do not paint sad pictures, but I felt inspired to do this piece. I hope my viewers will identify with the emotions in my painting. It is ready to hang and protected with several layers of professional clear coating. Mary is holding an actual metal cross.

Thank you for your interest in my profile! I have been mesmorized with art, painting, drawing and photography ever since I can remember. I used to beg my parents for drawing lessons when I was only five years old. I have integrated art into my life for over thirty years. I am a professional photographer and work out of a lovely art studio in my 1776 farmhouse. I love my rescue dogs, horseback riding, hiking, playing the harp and piano, cooking gourmet vegetarian meals and listening to international music. I also teach French and Spanish to middle school and high school students. One of my favorite past times is wandering through a museum and getting inspired by so many magnificent works. Each piece has a story. Each piece has the heart of the artist inside. I believe that we are all connected throughout the ages through art. Art is a powerful form of self-expression and is the window into all of our souls.
