“Toreadora” / Matadora is a layered exploration of feminine strength, ritual, and emotion. Blending soft translucency with bold, expressive lines, this piece invites the viewer into a symbolic inner arena. The figure — part matador, part muse — stands as both protector and performer. Elena Salova is a Ukrainian-born artist living in Spain, known for her innovative painting technique called "Multilayered Veil", developed in 2014. This technique emerged spontaneously before a major exhibition in Kyiv, where Elena, pressed for time, layered translucent oil paints to reveal hidden figures through delicate lines. It is a deeply intuitive process, likened to "developing a photograph". Elena studied monumental painting at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Kyiv and gained recognition with her 2013 show "Illusion". Her works have appeared in galleries across Europe, including Moscow, Ukraine, and the UK. In 2023, she exhibited at the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville, where her pieces were acquired by Italian collectors. The war in Ukraine forced Elena to leave her home, finding solace in meditation and art. In Spain, she revived her passion for painting using her unique technique. She eventually opened a gallery in Seville, near the largest Gothic cathedral, where she restored antique masterpieces and showcased her own works, including pieces by Dalí, Miró, and Goya.
