My current work “Favorite Things” was meant to be like a summer beach read. This series focuses on things that brings me joy and lights up the hallways of my imagination. But my spontaneity opens my subconscious that can sting. It's clear there is no way to escape the reality of living in this world. I use pop culture references focusing on celebrity, fashion, and cinema in combination with my private emotional life that changes from day to day. Using images that I find in the halls of the internet and transform through my imagination (as well as photographs that I take myself), I switch back and forth between oils and water-based paints to keep the flows of the painting as fresh as possible. Having grown up as the daughter of a staff LIFE photographer, my connection to photographs is particularly profound. I grew up thinking in pictures.
