About The Artwork
Every new day in the studio is born with a meditative drawing, always in black ink on delicate paper from China or Japan, always the same size. The technique used to create these paintings is strongly influenced by Japanese sumi-e painting. My mood, dreams from the night before, the world outside, all seep into the paper, transforming it into an emotional seismograph. Although I seldom have a clear image of what I am painting, invariably the result is interpreted as an abstract landscape.

Born in South Africa (1961). Resides and works in Kfar Yona, Israel. My mixed-technique works combine black ink influenced by Japanese and Chinese traditions with dry pastels on paper. Superimposed over free-hand landscapes are minutely detailed drawings of seemingly inconsequential, commonplace elements derived from images imprinted on the artist's retina, camera and memory. The juxtaposition of diverse techniques and content matter forges a fresh dialogue that is hauntingly lyrical yet manifests desolation, turbulence and ambiguity.
