A minimalist meditative piece inspired by a trip to Greece. The blue is the blue of the sea, and the gold is inspired by the jewelry shops along a narrow street in Athens. This painting consists of three layers. The underpainting, or imprimatura, is bright orange (a mix of yellow ochre and alizarin crimson) to compliment and vibrate the ultramarine turquoise pigment seated on top. The gold is a mix of gold pigmented oil with an entire bag of gold leaf. The gold leaf and oil were mashed together and applied directly with my palette knife atop the freshly dried turquoise pigment. This painting does not need a frame. It sits 1.5 inches from the surface of the wall. The canvas was hand stretched over a hand-made pine frame. It is gallery ready, ready to hang on your wall!

Alonna Explores the boundaries of perception through the dynamics of color, form, and movement. The goal is to find new ways to visually understand the world, new ways to be visually expressive. The female figure continues to be a recurring theme throughout her images. It is the motif through which she identifies herself in this lifetime as artist, the body through which she experiences. Since a very early age she has been obsessed with drawing. It was not something that was encouraged, just something she needed, and there was nothing her parents or teachers could do about it. She is currently a senior undergrad at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Peck School of Art where she studies drawing, painting, design, and art history. History is also essential to the conceptualization of many of her images. After graduation in spring 2015 she plans to move to Miami to pursue her career. Alonna credits many artists, many colors, and many musical notes for the roles they have played in inspiring her work.
