About The Artwork
In this project in 2015 and resulted in a solo exhibition in 2017 (Vanity Sluts), Ali Tareen raised questions towards the abuse and misuse of animals in sake of 'beautifying' and magnifying the ego of the human being, juxtaposed with the ambiguous existential relationship between sex and death. The woman, (Medusa) in a powerful sexually charged provocation position, holds her tongue out to a strangled rabbit with the emphasis of the red lipstick symbolizing both the concepts of sex and death. The blood of the animal empowers the sexuality of the woman.
