Megalithic Shapes Painting

This work was inspired by the megalithic shapes carved into the Calderstones, Liverpool. Before the dawn of writing, which began in the Middle East, shapes were carved in stone whose meanings have become obscure. It is thought that they are entoptic and shamanistic in nature, the participants in primitive rituals trying to represent the images they viewed when in a trance like state. The creative process is a means by which we summon reality onto the canvas from the world of our imaginations. After several hours painting, artists will know, that one can summon up images, colours and shapes which come as a pleasant shock the next day when we see them. Where did that come from? Did that come from my imagination?Or were the Gods of the paint helping me? Perhaps the artist can even feel similarities with the artists who summoned these fascinating shapes into existence.
