Memories No. 1 Painting

This painting was inspired by a photograph of my grandmother from the 1970s. I chose this image in particular because of the composition but also because I was unhappy with the result I was getting while painting strangers. The chosen color palette is intentional and planned. I chose a limited palette and painted many smaller studies to achieve the right tone. I hope that the viewer feel a sense of nostalgia when looking at this piece - in the same way that they might have looking at old photographs, but with a pinch of contemporary. I chose acrylic over other mediums because I have a goal of making acrylic paint look like oil paint.
