About The Artwork

The watercolour painting is A4 in size (210 x 297 mm /8.3 x 11.7 in), which was initially drawn in Derwent and Caran Da'che watercolour pencils on 300g/m Aquafine watercolour paper, then painted, involving some burnishing. The painting is provisionally entitled: Mephistophina: The Devil Girl Of Dr. Faustus My Artist's name is Mardun; whereas my Author's name is Faustus Crow; however, my Art and writing tends to cross-over into one another of an alchemical wedding. The painting depicts a female version of Mephistopheles, which, of an all too apparent Entartete Kunst pose, has a deeper meaning beyond the initial reaction. The artwork is loosely based upon an illustration of Mephistopheles, as found in the Grimoire, entitled the, Threefold Coercion of Hell; also called, Cabalae nigrae, or the Magia naturalis et innaturalis as well as the Black Raven, which is said to have been authored by Doktor Johannes Faust. The Grimoire illustration is listed as being plate 10 in the Threefold Coercion Of Hell, which depicts the first appearance of Mephistopheles, manifesting as a 'fiery Bear.' The Threefold Coercion of Hell, was first published in Passau 1505, a later version was published by Scheible, Stuttgart 1849 and republished by Verlag Geheimes Wissen in 2008. It is is renowned for its rich illustrations, which is considered to be a Grimoire of black-magic. The Grimoire is dedicated to the advanced "Kabbalist," who is instructed in the "Arte of coercing, binding and making obedient the various spirits and demons." The book is also known as The Black Raven, which is due to its title page, showing a black Corvid inside of a circle, representing the Nigredo stage of Alchemy. Mephistopheles is commonly considered to be a name of a spirit in the Faustian legend, who in return for his assistance, Faust signs away his soul as depicted in Marlowe's and Goethe's grandiose Church plays. The origin of the conception and name of Mephistopheles has been the subject of much learned debate among numerous Biblical scholars down the ages, whose all male pantheon of a deified 'Animus.' has entirely negated the feminine principle of the 'Anima,' yet none to really question, why? As of per usual commonality in the numerous Playgirl Grimoires frequenting many a Hogwarts bookshop, you will find in Dr Faust's Höllenzwang that (Mephistopheles) Mephistophiel is considered to be one of the seven great phallic princes of hell, who is seen standing under the planet Jupiter. As stated earlier, Mephistopheles is described first manifesting in the form of a fiery bear, then to appear of fairer appearance as a little man with a black cape, having a shiny bald head like celibate a monk. Then again, he could be a Tibetan Bönpo Buddhist monk, teaching dream Yoga and shamanistic Tantra. Whatever the case, if Faust was truly a rebel, of a heterosexual orientation, he would have no doubt noted, just like the psychologist Carl Jung, that the all male pantheon of a patriarchal 'Animus' fixation has castigated the feminine principle of the 'Anima' out of the spiritual equation, a Hindu/Buddhist would term as Shakti; wherefore, as a rebel, he would seek out to conjure what has been 'censored' into the abyss, whence to discover a very real, banned, Necronomicon. As the Hindu saying goes: "A God is not a God without his Shakti." Hence, Faust would reverse the symbolic polarity, by conjuring up a Succubus 'Anima' fluctuation to name as Mephistophina, who would then be in Faust's mind, one of the rebel Succubae of the seven planets, you could equate with the seven Chakras of Yoga practice. To Faust himself, being a classically described somnambulist and medium, you could otherwise term as a shaman, Mephistophina has a real existence. She would be the personification of the transcendental 'Anima' (Shakti) subject of Faust, an experience familiar in dreams and, more especially, in the visions of Siberian shamans, who practice (Corvid) Nigredo 'trance' and Albedo 'lucid dreaming,' via which they engage themselves with the 'fiery' Bear (female shaman) mother, named Udagan, who Rubedo 'rebirths' them back into the (Maya) world, renewed. Mephistophina would thus be a familiar spirit, akin to the inspiring 'daemon ' of Socrates; and being an Entartete Kunst archetype, who is censored by closeted theologians, Mephistophina would also represent a rebellion against the all male, Right-Hand-Path paradigm of a deified 'Animus,' made as an Orwellian God of centralist politics. It is suggested, then, in the light of modern research into lucid dreaming, that Mephistophina, though being a two-dimensional Grimoire image of a meditative aid, becomes as a three-dimensional interactive reality within a (sexagram/sixth-sense) 'Coitus Pactum' lucid dream; whereby the 'Osculum infame' takes on a whole different meaning. The Osculum infame is the name of a supposed ritual greeting upon meeting with the Devil. The name means The Shameful Kiss, or The Kiss of Shame since it involved kissing the anus and genitalia of (Mephistopheles) the Devil. However, if you have an 'Animus' archetype of a Mephistopheles, then a heterosexual male mage, would find the Osculum infame, to be a very shameful act indeed, unless his sexual preference is otherwise of orientation. Not too sure about how heterosexual Witches feel about kissing the behind of their deified 'Animus;' although it is said that 47% of women read superhero Grimoire comics featuring chisel chinned, sculpted males wearing colourful skin tight leotards, revealing their tight Baboon butts. Going by my Maenad exes, women, apparently get really hot over tight Baboon butts. I guess it's a hangover from the Eden time when we were all apes; it's nature. Alas, I don't have a tight Baboon butt, which probably explains why my ele-mental exes, ran off, chasing after chisel chinned Baboons. As for their Sapphic sisters , they would be none too pleased kissing 'Animus' butt cake, they would far prefer Mephistophina presenting up her upturned arse, of similarity to Milo Manara's controversial illustration of Marvel's Spiderwoman, which got the heterosexual female readers screaming, sexist pornography. They did not notice that Spiderwoman's upturned arse was in the shape of a 'Heart' symbol, which of pre-Christian pagan symbolism, originally represented the buttocks and genitalia of the Goddess, who weaves the (Spider) web of fate, whose 'Heart' shaped arse/genitalia also refers to the 'Osculum infame.' As for Aleister Crowley mages and their Babalon kin, they have no need to rebel against the all male paradigm of the deified 'Animus;' it suits them just fine. Mephistophina would then be Faust's familiar, who is simply an aspect of his 'Anima,' (Shakti) manifesting in various guises, as a (Udagan) Bear, as an Elfin girl, as a Nun, as an invisible poltergeist presence ringing a bell, thrice at a Thirteenth Rune hour; but always recognizable as the same familiar, who is his 'Anima' fluctuation of a Succubus. A Tibetan Buddhist would otherwise term a Succubus as being a Dakini, who is a bio-photon fluctuation of Shakti, within spun trance visions and electron dreams. Mephistophina is depicted partly dressed as a noblewoman, all in Rubedo (menstrual blood) red, with a astral flight feather in her hat. On her left shoulder she has a tattoo of a Native American Heart-line Bear claw, which also refers to the aforementioned Udagan and that of an ancestral association between the Native American's and the indigenous natives of Siberia. (the 'Heart' area of the chest, is where most of the Central-Nervous-System fibres are to be found. The 'Heart' is considered to be where the power of Nigredo [hypnagogic] trance resides in shamanistic practice.) The name Udagan is a Siberian term for a female shaman who is very much aware of the bio-photon weave of fate being spun from within the electron dream, an Anglo-Saxon sorcerer would term as the web of Wyrd, which also refers to the Tarot card 'X' of a Wheel Of Fortune. The sigils and accompanying seals were adapted from the Threefold Coercion Of Hell's plate (X) 10, for Mephistophina, whose Bear cave of the womb dream the sorcerer to impregnate when accessing the hypnagogic state of Nigredo trance, which of a Tantric dream Yoga technique is associated with the seventh Rune of Gebo, looking like an X. The Gebo Rune of an 'X' is also that of the (Nigredo) Crossbones, meaning trance; whereas the skull refers to the little death of trance ingress into the dream. Though not clearly seen, Mephistophina also has a little cape of remote viewing red silk swept behind her and a long pointed Chöd sword on her right side; for she be a Left-Path-Handed Dakini.
