Metamorphosis Painting

This work was inspired by my introduction into the Christian faith as well as my understanding of baptisms. This was first introduced to me after the tragedy I felt after losing my father in 2017, to suicide. When looking at this piece, I want the viewer to identify with the vulnerability I have portrayed in the nakedness of the subject as well as be directly confronted by the figure in the painting. The bare bodied figure is a symbol of stripping the old in oneself to become the new. I chose to work in oil paint, thickened by beeswax, because it allowed me to explore the three dimensional form of the human body as well as allowing me to rework the medium, after it’s been sitting for a few hours.
