About The Artwork

I was inspired by the sculpture of 'Ugolino and his sons' by Jean Baptiste Carpeaux at the Metropolitan museum of art in New York. This is a cropped, close up view focusing on the beauty and agony of the work of art. The inclusion of the graphics grounds the study to a time and place in my career. My interpretation is from an original pencil sketch drawn on site.

WIRE, CLAY AND BRONZE My aim through figurative sculpture is to capture fleeting gestures of body language through beauty and form. When studying an athlete or dancer pushing their bodies to supreme limits I endeavour to record that majestic moment of power and tension. An underlying knowledge of the human form through intensive study of anatomy inspires me to create true to life figurative art. My daily experience with some of the best figurative sculptors in the world has equipped me with the vision necessary to deliver high quality work. I have a five year working relationship with Bronze Age Fine Art casting in London, where I cast my own work, and have collaborated on many large scale bronze sculptures including work for Hazel Reeves, Philip Jackson, Tessa Campbell Fraser, Roger Hiorns, Les Johnson, Paul Day, Doug Jennings and Sean Hedges Quinn. I was assistant sculptor to Richard MacDonald at The Royal Ballet School on a monument to Dame Nanette De Valois. Earlier this year I was shortlisted with five sculptors for the Mary Barbour monument. I recently completed a Half-life bronze commission of and for Dr Victoria Bateman that was exhibited at the FACE 2016, Society of Portrait Sculptors annual show in La Galleria, Pall Mall. Figurative sculpture has the power to move and teach us about ourselves.
