This cubist painting tackles the merging of the word Mirabeau and a cubist still life. Mirabeau is another name of a Paris station. I took on combining a wide range of objects such as a lamp, open book, newspaper, bottles, guitar, cards, a long smoking pipe and a purple cookie jar. I started this painting with the blue and green triangles on the perimeter of the composition. After laying down the blues and greens, I patiently added dots via the technique of stippling. I then worked on laying in the colors for the guitar. I then proceeded to add the letters starting with the M,I, and R. The first letter A is set with color aid paper pasted on black foam core board. The letter b is pasted on color aid paper. I then focused on the smaller elements such as the bottles, wood grain, and the open book. I could not resist but add the classic “Journal” newspaper title. I added the musical note as an afterthought. The emphasis of the book was to reference a children’s story that alludes to travel via the balloon.

Christian was born in the United States but has also lived in Colombia. He has attended schools such as Parsons (New York City), The University of the Arts (PHILA) and Drexel University (PHILA) and has a BFA in graphic design. He now lives in South Florida and has exhibited with other Latinamerican artists. About his work: I have always strived to test my skills, imagination and patience with each painting/project I engage in. I enjoy having contrasting styles within my work. I feel that the use of these styles helps me to develop my sense of color, form, and composition. Most of my work requires a lot of time (preparatory black & white sketches, color studies). However other paintings are done directly onto the canvas without any sketches.
