About The Artwork
The hands in this painting are symmetrical but opposite at the same time. The top one is bright, colourful, elegant and connected to the trunk facing upwards. The lower one is dark, dull, rough and leaning downwards. The contrast made me think of two entities that are opposite but connected by the same origin. The concept of ‘Monism’ comes from a philosophical theory holding that there is only one basic substance or principle as the ground of reality, or that reality consists of a single element.
