Cambodia is a land that has been devastated by earthquakes. Historically, there has been influence of Hindu and Buddhist culture in Cambodia and many Hindu Temples and Buddhist centers lie in ruins today. During his trip to Cambodia, Samir visited one such complex. The devastated temple ruins and the sunken floors sloping downward evoked a tremendous emotion in him on the ways of the Gods. While in this state, when he saw some Monks and a statue of Buddha in repose, a sense of calmness pervaded in Samir. In this large water colour on photo mount board titled ’Monks at Angkor Wat Temples–Cambodia’ Samir has tried to translate those feelings in his composition. He has the statue of Buddha in the fore with the sloping broken floors in the foreground. Three monks in their traditional attire are shown reflecting on the ruins of the temple structures seen in the backdrop.
