In this piece a single leaf of the monstera plant, often called a cheese plant, is the protagonist. The vibrant shades of green contrast with the bright washed out pastels behind it, suggesting a distant light source almost casting the leaf in shadow. The glossy surface of the leaf reflects some of the dusky palette behind it, picking up hints of pink that mix in with the viridian hues. Each canvas is made of a heavyweight cross laminated timber frame to prevent warping or twisting, with a high quality canvas fabric hand stretched over it. The canvas was primed once stretching was complete to ensure a uniform finish and to prevent cracking. The final pieces are painted with a mixture of artist quality Golden and Liquitex acrylic paints. A subtle signature is visible in the bottom right corner of the right canvas, each canvas is also stamped on the reverse. The painting is a diptych comprising two separate canvases and is intended to be hung on a wall, with a 5cm gap between each canvas, the dimensions of the individual pieces are as follow (from left to right): 15.7" x 35.4" / 15.7" x 35.4" 40 x 90cm / 40 x 90cm

Nikolai Almeida is an abstract painter based in London. He works primarily in acrylics, with his artistic works characterized by two distinct styles: The first is is a blurring of reality into abstraction, initially inspired by interplay of light in a dense forest landscape, this branched out to a herringbone pixelation of scenes in ethereal colourscapes. In his second style, a systematic brushwork method is used to craft pleasing compositions, often without a particular subject matter or focus in mind. Nikolai is a practicing architect in the UK, balancing the grand scale of architecture with the intricate details of his art. His influences span a diverse spectrum of creators who share his appreciation for the process-driven nature of art. For Nikolai, art isn't an escape; it's a vibrant lifeline that enriches his architectural creativity. His paintings challenge perceptions, offering glimpses into the boundless possibilities of the abstract.
