Monte’s Rock Garden Painting

This Abstract Expressionist/Contemporary Impressionist Floral was inspired by the rock garden in my own back yard. With the early morning sun rising over the wood fence providing a smorgasbord of color reflecting the flowers on surrounding rocks. I worked quickly to capture the elements I found pleasing to my eyes. Due to the fast drying time of the acrylic paint and wind picking up from the large lake behind the house, I blocked in the colors of foliage and rocks. Only later in the studio did I work the details from memory on a 12 x 12 Canvas Panel. I later frame the panel with 1.5 inch pine from the local hardware store that was cut to size by hand. I then added two coats off of mat varnish to Monte’s Rock Garden to protect the painting. I kept it as part of my personal art collection until now. Time to give her wings and let her go. I love the immediate gratification of working with acrylic paint, although I also enjoy working with oils as well. Many of my Florals are in oil, However my Abstract Expressionist style is evident in both. Some have called them Contemporary Impressionism, I have been influence by both. Loose Brushwork rendered in oil and acrylic, painting quickly impressionistic and intuitively satisfies my creative style.
