About The Artwork

This has a bit of a Winslow Homer vibe. I always liked his moody night-time sea-scapes. But mainly the attempt here was to balance colour and composition while abstaining from putting in too many details. I always feel the mood is more important than the reality. If I've been successful in portraying that, then no one looks at where the shadows fall.

Introduction Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wayne Millett and I’ve been working in various creative fields for the last 40 years. After I graduated from Concordia, I worked as a freelance illustrator, doing storyboards, airbrushing and final art for a number of projects. I also worked as an in-house graphic designer for a small company/studio in the late 80s. My degree from Concordia University is in Graphic Design, but I’ve always had a love of illustration and painting. In fact, I often had a canvas on the go in my studio while I continued to scout for freelance gigs. I made the move into animation in 1991 as it was a great time for artists to work on a number of animated projects and the start of a boom in that industry. Most of my tasks at that time involved creating locations/backgrounds for a number of television series, and I eventually ended up supervising artists at Cinar Animation in Montreal for almost a decade, garnering an Emmy share in the process for Arthur in 1997. I also wrote several 22 minute scripts for a few of Cinar’s popular shows at the time. As I transitioned into the digital era I spent my time between freelance work and pitching several television shows, and was heavily involved in both the visual and written creation of these productions. One of my most recent accomplishments has been completing an animated movie with JerryCo Animation, where I was responsible for the complete visual look of the film, doing both character and background design as well as props. I’m currently painting in oils for an upcoming show, using MidJourney to help me generate some incredible visuals which I then translate onto the canvas. I also do ongoing work on children’s books, and have self-published one already, here: https://www.blurb.ca/b/9203718-the-snow-week In summing up, I’d like to add that I’m extremely proficient in Adobe’s range of programs, especially Photoshop and Illustrator and am currently leasing the full Creative Suite. I have a passion for learning new programs and technology and am blown away by the potential of current AI sites. But my first passion was and still is painting on canvas and board. There’s something about the tactile experience of brush against canvas. You can see most of my creative output here: waynemillett.blogspot.com Wayne Millett
