About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by a still image from a rediscovered family home-movie from the 1970s featuring a holiday in Morocco. Interested in memory and the cinematic, my recent paintings are based on carefully selected still images from rediscovered Super 8 home movies recorded in the 70s and 80s by my father during his business travels abroad or family holidays. Carefully selected still images from those reels are appropriated and redefined during the painting process, which allows a distant past to be brought back into the present and new narratives to emerge. Additionally, my use of vibrant colours( reminiscent of french Post-impressionism), and fluid brushstrokes together with thin layers of oil paint and glazes mainly on board echoes the fragility and transience of memory as well as the vibrancy of the Kodachrome.

Antonia Jackson is a French born London-based artist and a graduate from Wimbledon College of Art. She is interested in memory and the cinematic and her paintings stem from found family archives ( and more precisely rediscovered Super 8 home movies) that she brings back to life through the medium of painting. Essentially narrative, her work hovers between figuration and abstraction and her bold use of colour is influenced by post-Impressionist French and German painters.She has exhibited extensively in the Uk and has started exhibiting in France. She has recently been selected for the RA Summer Exhibition 2020. Her work is held in private collections in the UK, France,Austria and Greece.
