About The Artwork

This is the fourth canvas of the series Morphisms. It was directly inspired by Matisse’s paintings one in particular is the Fish Bowl where the composition colors and form are everything in an almost perfect balance with a very strong contrast. During the process of painting Morphisms 4, I had this painting in the back of my mind. I saw it in my large scale canvas interpretation there is a separation represented by a trapezoidal window between chaos and order. Something that relates to the interior pace of the painter that contrasts with the madness of the outside world. Painting is a meditative process to some extent. In my representation I try to reveal color in their inner radiance and vibrations. The shapes help the viewer to stay focus and wander in what I call an emotive landscape. There is a sense of joy brought by the clarity of the pigments and the delicacy of the color transitions. Color is life! I always been an abstract painter, I like to play with shapes that I use to hold the color and paint the landscape. My relation to space is ambivalent I like to elaborate very flat shapes and also to bring perspective giving a sense of depth. This helps me to bring disequilibrium and disorder that enhances the mutations of both colors and shapes. In the process I try to smooth things out in search of harmony. The painting is made on a premium coton canvas, it exhibits some grain, some of the brush strokes ridges catch the light and shows their intrinsic dimension. The pigments I used are the best there is today with genuine mono pigments paints in top grade linseed oil. The quality of the pigments make the colors extremely vivid and vibrant. Sadly pictures seen on this platform are heavily compressed I suggest strongly to visit this page to get a better appreciation of colors and shapes in the painting: www.de-santa-coloma.com/en

My paintings are evocative of abstract landscapes. I build imaginary structures in space that ressemble past experience gathered from literature and wanderings off the city limits and in nature. I have been experimenting with various techniques ranging from oil painting to gouache, watercolor and pastels. Experimentation takes me to new territories and help me reveal the inner beauty of the materials I use. I show their delicacy and subtleness and the color variation and granularity from the smallest to the largest works I have produced. In my exhibitions I always experiment with different medium and try to push my ideas and concepts further so that they make a mark in the exhibition space. I cannot hang a painting in a gallery space without carefully plan and produce for that space. The work becomes interlocked with its surrounding and makes an imprint to something I can later relate too. Colour has become the central figure of my paintings, a spiritual guide and a way of expressing my personal feelings. I focus on a palette or sometimes on a single color and I build not only a work but a world around it. The landscape becomes abstract from the very moment that the gaze loses itself in it. All the works displayed on my personal Saatchi webpage is available for sale and will ship worldwide in secured and insured crate or tube.
