About The Artwork
This painting is a summary of the early experiences of Joe Hutchinson as he grew up in the central high country of Colorado. The early autumn brings the last of the monsoon rains and the beginning of snow on the mountain peaks of the Rocky Mountains.. To the left is Mount Ouray (you-ray), named after the Ute chief, next is Mount Chipita, his wife; further to the right is the continuation of the Continental Divide of 14000-foot peaks - Shavano and the Collegiate Range in the far distance. All were visible from the Hutchinson Ranch where Joe grew up. So, this is both a nostalgic painting of memories.
