VIEW IN MY ROOM
Painting, Oil on Other
Size: 20 W x 16 H x 3 D in
My most recent work is derived from photographs taken in the Central Eastern Alps - Austria. I find myself continually drawn to painting mountainous regions; I want to convey the serenity of the alpine peaks, but although I paint from photographs, they are simply for reference only. The valleys I have painted are not a true representation of a town, simply remembered fragments stitched together to construct a new landscape, which for myself represents the sentimentality of my time there.

Born on 13th June 1991 and raised in Warrington, Cheshire. After completing a Foundation Diploma at Carmel College in St Helens, Merseyside, I then went on to study BA Fine Art at Falmouth University where I graduated with Bachelors degree in 2013. Since then I have exhibited in London as part of a Falmouth Showcase, FloatArt and Now Falmouth. I will soon be exhibtiting my degree show in the Millennium Gallery in St Ives as part of the Midas Award. My ideas and inspirations stem from looking at images and my photographs as a memory, perhaps sometimes embellished memories. I feel the need to make paintings that co-exist with these idyllic images and conform to my recollections of being in the environment. The fragments of land perhaps suggest an intangible reality, there is often no evidence of human activity, it is complete wilderness with only suggestions of habitation. My latest body of work is a continuation from the paintings I made on an exchange trip to Alberta, Canada. I would like my paintings to act as a contemplative space to allow the viewer to form their own connections and interpretations of the landscape. Personally they are a hazy reflection of my time spent there, but for others it may trigger their own sentiments of previous journeys.
