About The Artwork

It is a painting inspired by the novel by the Russian writer “F.M. Dostoevsky ”, Crime and Punishment. Both the novel and the painting illustrate the theme of obtaining salvation through suffering, in the Christian religion considering that suffering has a purifying effect on the human spirit, giving it the chance for salvation, because salvation is a possible option for all people even for those with serious sins. Gradually realizing this, Raskolnikov, the main character, confesses to his murder and awaits atonement.
