About The Artwork

Once upon a time Caminar por Mexico, a quite strambotic artist from Tijuana Mexico, performed an exhibition of paintings in Guanajuato city and there is where we met him with a luchador mask. There was a lot of "art chemistry" so in a few days he was visiting Espacio Mutante, our studio, and instantly inspired to start something on here. The 200x200 cm empty embroidery frame that Corvus Corax donated to the place months ago was the detonator of the idea: We were going to make that painting. Caminar por Mexico was in Playa del Carmen in Southeast Mexico before coming to Guanajuato so he had very fresh the mayan motiv so he determined he wanted to paint by himself a mayan warrior. The style of the house is the anonymous collective art so we were going to do the background. We were all very interested into neon colors so the pallete was very clear from the beginning. All the process was an art celebration. Each session was different and too many people (we lost the count) were involved. It took a couple of months working by day and by night. With white and color lights... Exposing it to the RGB LED lights made it whole different experience. It not only brights but also give a magical and psychedelic sensation when the colors start to change. The portrait of the Mutant Warrior represent all of us that are deconstructing ourselves in constant transformation. The two scropion corpses in the eye of the warrior represent the danger of living in Mexico. The word ISLAM means the randomness of our style. And of course it has a lot of other hiden meanings that we don't recall right now and others that we don't even have access to. When we decided we were done painting we organized an art event on may 5 of 2018 called LA BATALLA with the unveiling of the artwork and some performance and . The plastic highlight of the evening was when someone didn't agree it was finished and that could even paint over the warrior pouring an important amount of blue paint in his crooked face. Caminar por Mexico, with his luchador mask left the turntables (inside his PC) and kicked that individual out of the gallery. The next day he came back and repaired the damage made. Try to find: • The blue guy standing in a lava lake. • The payment method • The stitched wound • The number of the beast • The fish • Mexican food • The inverted cross • The ringed moon Try to count: • The cats • The dogs • The birds • The tits • The dicks • The stars • The buildings • The spirals * A LED RGB light is needed to have the whole experience. It includes photo and video evidence of the process of creation a very important part of our work.

Espacio Mutante is a mexican space of art, located in the City of Guanajuato and focused on visual and plastic experimentation. Since 2015, Espacio Mutante has been a place of constant changing, a nature that has permeated our art production and that's given our studio it's name. Proud of the raw energy that our colorful space provides, we can say that Crudity is our specialty. Numerous artists have passed through this project, visiting and residing the building but also contributing with the artwork. Product of these exchanges, which used to result in our emblematic "Aquelarre" art parties and immersive circuits, Anonymous Collective Art (A.C.A.) came into existence. A raw, savage force of collaboration, A.C.A. became the signature form of work and experimentation for Espacio Mutante. Given the pandemic circunstancies, we now continue to develop new ways of collaboration and techniques for creating in collectivity. We seek connection, humor and the crudity of the soul. Espacio Mutante's three pillars of co-direction came from multiple backgrounds: Carlos Guerrer, Alejandrina Pérez Barragán and Julio Sahagún Sánchez. These mexican artists reside in the city of Guanajuato, guarding the pieces that multiple anonymus workers have intervened and proliferating new works of art with a philosophy of Crudity and Experimentation.
