Olicorno is an emerging self-taught performance artist and contemporary painter based in Montreal. Also a pianist and composer, his work is often multidisciplinary, encompassing original music, live performances, visual art, video and installation art. His paintings are always charged with bold performative energy that shapes textured surfaces which are sculpted over time using various body parts. The body becomes a creative tool and the artist often becomes the living canvas for his work. Olicorno aims to understand his relations with the universe around and within him through body experiences (ex: sensory deprivation) and academic research on subjects like quantum physics. To him, every achievement is part of a larger process with no real ending. With this in mind, he allows himself to retransform a painting several times and to present to his audience every stage of its transmuting process. In his world, nothing is definitive, everything can be transformed. Ambition, symbolism, science, body knowledge, sensory perception/experimentation and philosophical questioning are recurring themes in his work. For one of his series, called Beauty is What You See, Olicorno blindfolds himself in front of an audience and cuts out all sounds with headphones, then paints with the three primary colours without knowing in which order they will be used. Blind and deaf, he gives free reign to his intuition; his inner visions and feelings come freely to life in abstract, bold colours and shapes. His work reflects life's inherent self-transformation and evolution.
