About The Artwork

“My crown” is a self-portrait where I want to underline my feeling by being a Quebecer and a woman who wears the veil; how can I move between these two cultures. The fleur-de-lis which is an emblem of the flag of Quebec also symbolizes royalty and authority in which I perceive my veil. I want the audience to ask these questions: Why veiled women should be perceived differently from other citizens? What is the integration into Quebec culture? What are the values of Quebec? Why should faith and a garment be related to race or to nationality? My Crown, oil and acrylic painting on canvas, 24 ”by 30”, 2016.
