Mia Gjerdrum Helgesen (b. 1971) http://www.artmia.no The artist works with painting on wood and canvas, sculptures in wood, bronze and marble, textiles and graphics. She attaches great importance to the interaction between artist and material, which she describes as follows: "Exercising energy to scratch into the wood created a direct connection between the material and me. It became a bit like my nerve fibers play in the wood when I draw with an intuitive approach. It is the traces we leave behind, relationships and interactions I take with me into the works, in borderland between figuration and abstraction. I work with organic natural materials that reflect our existence, growth and life." Relief painting arose as an extension of Helgesen's work with woodcuts. Instead of mirroring the motif and blackening the printing plate to create a graphic impression, she works directly in the wooden plate and then combines the relief with inkings and painting layer upon layer, to an original painting on wood. Mia Gjerdrum Helgesen (b. 1971) has a master's degree from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (SHKS) Oslo, Westerdals Reklameskole Oslo and the Academy of Art San Francisco USA with honors classes. In 2018 she was awarded a residency at Mana Contemporary in NYC New York, in that connection she had exhibitions in New York, New Jersey, Miami and LA. In 2020, she launched her book published by Press forlag written by Lars Elton for her solo exhibition at Soli Brug with over 110 works. In 2021, she participated in an international artist collaboration ARTDOM with Pakistani artists and the theme of women's rights. In 2022, she opened a solo exhibition in KHAAK Åleseund.
