About The Artwork
'Myself when I am real' is inspired by personal experience of bipolar disorder and dissociation. I hope viewers will respond with feelings of curiosity, a lust for life and a new sensory experience of colour. I chose the style as it best captures the sensation of waking up from an episode of dissociation - all colours feel brighter and the world feels real again. The piece takes its name from a Charles Mingus piano piece.
