It could be a peek under the sod or a hollow in the rock, but this suggested interpretation is not binding. The artist wants the viewer to discover his own world of thoughts in her works. The work is signed on the reverse. The technology: A Suminagashi is painted on on a water surface. Of course, the water is always in motion and the slightest breeze lets the paint flow in a direction that was not intended. The colors react differently when the brush touches the surface of the water. Some colors jump apart, others react cautiously or sink immediately. Painting has to be done very quickly because the colors only float on the water for a short time. For printing a sheet of paper is placed on the surface of the water. In this way the colors combine with the paper. As the water moves, the motif changes one more time during printing.
