About The Artwork

This painting was inspired by the exploration of "self-love". I started this in 2011 and often found myself "stuck" with this piece, letting it sit and evolve for years, but it never felt finished. After meeting with a friend, she said, "I think you should go nuts. Paint a bunch of the little worlds and trees you enjoy". Something about her openness "freed" me! After this, I began to care less about what others may think of my paintings and just decided to paint places for playing. This energy trickled into my life and allowed me to "get clear" on the things that mattered most to me. Needless to say, it was a turning point. It was also right around my "Saturn Return" (or so many friends told me!). Many late nights were spent "hanging out" and imagining nature throwing a party for me and this new found well of self-love, care, and well-being.

Kim Tateo is an artist that explores interconnectedness to ourselves, our environment, and ultimately the universe. She came into this world untethered. As an orphan adopted into a family with a sick parent, she experienced loss at a young age and understands more than anyone we are always connected and always held. Impermanence always surrounds us, but we can connect through unspoken words, feelings, and the spaces in between. She creates vibrant worlds using bold colors, glitter, and blacklight-responsive paint to reveal a hidden layer that is meant as a reminder of the unseen things always surrounding us. Kim currently lives and works in Troy, NY. She has been part of several group shows, juried shows, solo exhibitions, and public art projects in NYC and the Capital Region. Highlighted projects include work for the Smallbany Gallery and “From Troy to Troy” and “dreamlands”, an International Virtual show hosted by the Arts to Hearts project.
