Needles in the Hay Painting

Needles in the Hay is part of my Puddle Paintings, a 2013 series of works exploring color, balance, and beauty in their simplest form. Drawing upon the color choices of others by using found or donated house paints, I explored the body's visceral reaction to color, why we are drawn to certain colors, and how they affect us in our environments. As a practice in letting go, I consciously took my intention and ego out of the process and literally let the paint fall as it may. In this work I punched holes in paint swatches I had collected from the paint store and let the small circles fall into the puddle of wet light blue paint like confetti.
