About The Artwork

The dance of the negritos in Peru is a folk dance of Afro-Peruvian origin. This dance is linked to the festivities of Christmas and Easter. It has its origin in the colony and continued after the abolition of slavery but over the years, men of color became extinct, so they were replaced by mestizos and then by whites. As the dance was of black people, they had to make masks, this Dance is constituted Peruvian. In this painting I take the character in a non-material space far from the dance where he awaits the upcoming festivities.

I´m a peruvian artist based in Berlin. I was active as a graffiti artist since 1996 and one of the pioneers of street art and contemporary muralism in the streets of Lima. In 2008 I moved to Berlin where I have worked since then. I am inspired by the rich duality of cultures, both in hectic Lima and eclectic Berlin. My artistic work stands as a bridge that connects these two seemingly divergent realities, exploring the spiritual depth that unites humanity across the ages. Through my creations, I strive to break the barriers imposed by the canvas, challenging the divisions between the figurative and the abstract. In my works, I personify human spirituality through a semi-self-created mythology, using the solemnity of the characters to create a deep bond with the viewer.
