ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I created this abstract oil painting using rag, brush and pallet knife on board. I wanted to create a moody feel so I chose black, blue and white as the main colours. I like oil paints as you can blend them or put them on thickly with a pallet knife to add texture and movement. The emerging light seems to hold some hope - a new dawn. This could be a landscape or a seascape. You choose!

I have been painting for over 45 years. Primarily a watercolour artist I also enjoy oils (only recently), acrylic, pen and ink, alcohol inks, charcoal and pencil. I run an arts centre in my town and I teach watercolour painting and life drawing. My biggest passion is wildlife and wild places so that is mainly what I paint. I am particularly interested in endangered species and hope that my art will go some way towards raising awareness of the plight of animals, birds and other wildlife. In my spare time, when I am not painting or running my arts centre, I love to be in nature. It inspires me, relaxes me and fills me with wonder. I am very lucky to live in a part of the world where the sea, the moors and rolling Devon countryside is right on the doorstep.
