About The Artwork

I love creating these new shapes which are giving me the freedom to express beyond a straight line, and might derive from a collected pebble, a view out across a bay or a protruding headland. This piece was inspired by the sunset, mid Atlantic, on a misty day. With the depth of the horizon line changing and moving. The shapes are designed by me and then made from layers of birch wood, solid yet light. This piece is measured at the widest points; 15cm x 21cm It is ready to hang and can be hung in any direction that you choose. My work is influenced by the late Trevor Bell, one of the most important abstract painters of the 20th century.

Emma is an artist and curator, working and living in London. She paints abstract images on canvas, board and custom-made birch wood panels. She is inspired and intrigued by the power and beauty of nature, the constant interaction of the elements and how they make her feel. Her new work, on one of her irregular-shaped birch wood panels, has been selected for the final round of judging for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2020. Emma trained in graphic design and spent 10 years working in branding and advertising, before starting to pursue her true passion of painting in 2012. After the sell-out success of her first solo show ATLANTIC, inspired by her sailing across the Atlantic Ocean in 1991, she has not looked back. Her second successful solo show JOURNEY was held in 2019 at the Gallery in Delta House Studios. Emma is also the founder and curator of the hugely successful 33 Art Sale, which raises funds for charities whilst supporting the participating artists. To date she has raised over £50k for the Rural Refugee Network and is now working with South London Cares on a London sale.
