About The Artwork
I wanted to paint a cratered moon that would force me to paint circular forms, layered together in a perspective consistent with a sphere. I know moons form from aggregate solids that gravitate towards spherical shapes over time, and I have painted our own moon as realistic as necessary in other times. I neglected to pay any attention to realistic lighting effects in this composition. This painting is called 'New Moon' because that is when our own moon is almost invisible, freeing me to render this in any color and level of detail.
