About The Artwork

“No Title” is part of a series called “Aesthetic Paradox”. The series starts with the investigation of the concept of an artwork as an object, in particular over the aesthetic relation of two different and opposed materials such as concrete and gold leaf. The research is based on the works of a few contemporary artists, like Alberto Burri and Pier Paolo Calzolari, who developed works based on the manipulation of primary materials in order to obtain an artwork-object. Thank to this research I had the chance to play with the rough qualities of concrete, and at the same time with the elegant and fine qualities of the gold leaf. Another important aspect of this series is the preparation of the concrete, as depending on its fluidity, I could choose if make the surface three dimensional or not, or rough rather than smooth, and vice versa. The use of gold leaf, together with concrete is fundamental for the development of this series, most of all for its aesthetics. For this reason the series is entitled “Aesthetic Paradox”, as the use of both opposite materials can result in an aesthetics success. The materials used for the realisation of the series are concrete mixed with glue (in order to make cracks) and finishing touches of gold leaf; while its pallets is very simple, composed by only a few colours: white, blacks, greys and gold. Particularly, “No Title” is a triptych, composed by three panels vertically hanged within 4 to 6 cm from one to another, the works works best hanged as the picture shows.

I'm an Italian/Australian emerging abstract artist, born in Italy, currently living in Australia. My home country always inspired me in creating art, my main stream of inspiration is the Surrealism Movement and Postmodernism. I started painting since I was 8 and since then I never stopped. My art practice is painting acrylics on canvas and wood panels, this is because I like the flexibility of acrylic paint. I started as a self-taught, however, the Italian education system includes Art history and practice as a core subject, so here I really started developing this passion into more concrete practice. Since here in Australia, I kept my creativity as a hobby, however people complimented my works, motivating me to start a degree in Fine Arts. My art has been valued by Angelo Crespi, an Italian Art critic, to be 2.6 of the artist coefficient.
