North of Pittsburgh 1758 Triptych Painting

On a foggy morning I was looking at the hills north of Pittsburgh. The fog obscured the buildings enough so that I could easily imagine the hills without structures. Upon looking at early images of the same area I was struck with the idea to paint that morning image. I used gold leaf to capture the highlights amongst the clouds, oil paint to capture the color and shape, and quick pastel marks to delineate shadows and moments of detail. The length of the horizon in my view allowed me to work within a triptych. I framed this image with simple butt joints using reclaimed wooden lathe from a building that was demolished in Pittsburgh.
