About The Artwork

I tend to get my ideas usually from everyday life, mostly from my own life but sometimes from other peoples lives as well. Many things inspire me to paint, my surroundings, family, and sometimes even worries that I have may often evolve into a painting. Most of my work began as a feeling, happiness, despair, gratitude or it was inspired after a significant life event which had an impact on me or others. What is happening at a particular moment in my life can have a great influence on what I'm creating. I create art because I need to; meaning that's my first goal, for my health and for my sanity but mostly ... to breath. It is as vital to my well-being as air is to my lungs and if I am not creating then I am not fulfilled. I need to create to clear out the clutter in my brain and make room for all the other constant new ideas that come to me. Cubism was a truly revolutionary style of modern art developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braques. It was the first style of abstract art which evolved at the beginning of the 20th century in response to a world that was changing with unprecedented speed. Cubism was an attempt by artists to revitalise the tired traditions of Western art which they believed had run their course. The Cubists challenged conventional forms of representation, such as perspective, which had been the rule since the Renaissance. Their aim was to develop a new way of seeing which reflected the modern age.

Caster was born in 1986 in Benin; he was raised by his Father and Grandparent due to the unexpected passing of his birth Mother. Caster's a young artist of special talent. With no formal artistic training, he has managed to depict palpable imagery from his memory with honesty and clarity. His dynamic drawings and paintings are executed with flourish and verve. In the midst of a creative cycle of self-discovery, a world of youthful exuberance has emerged. Combining finesse with delicate energy, his paintings often reveal his journey into an inspired fantasy world based on his former home in Benin and Togo (West Africa). “Casters surprises and delights his audience by superimposing academic rules with colorful imagination. Thus, his "Artistique Main Noir" trademark or “nom de plume” which is French for Black Hand bringing a liveliness and bold originality that is seductive and even exotic to our frequently jaded kind of self-portrait, discovering a renaissance of images from within and opening up visual emotions for us." Stated by his mentor and one of his main inspirations; Mr. Arthur Secunda. Caster states, “What inspires me most is the unique view of my surroundings, Arthur Secunda’s artwork, and finally the people and the forces that exist within us. To me, this is an outward manifestation of what I put into my work; my work exposes my emotions, thoughts, feelings, fears, dreams and observations about life. I exhibit a sense of creativity and awareness with the taste of Africa, so as to bring viewers and admirers to the place where I came from, my background. I believe that every mistake that I may make in my Art is a sign from God to go back and learn, and grow from.
