ABOUT THE ARTWORK
There was a photo in the paper around the beginning of the "War on Terrorism" that depicted a soldier saying his goodbyes to his daughter after a short leave back home. I struggled with the problem of how to use the photo as reference only, changing it in major ways to make it my own and not a plaigarized facsimile of a great photo. So I dug through all my old photos and came up with some suitable for transfers and these gave the painting context. I limited the palette, discarded the original background and added some abstract elements. I hope I have captured the expression and the light: the Oasis in the storm.
