About The Artwork

I was in the train station in Odessa on one Christmas eve. a young boy wearing a drummer boy hat was sitting on the bench. His hands appeared crippled. As I spoke with him he told me he was trying to get home to see his family in another city for Christmas. He had no money sleeping in the train station. the police were watching him. there was some kind of deal going on there. He told me the story how he had his hands crushed in some farm machinery. we talked awhile, as he spoke fairly good English. I gave him $100 to get on a train and go home. This is the painting of the memory of that moment.
