ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The northern part of Sicily features the cores of long extinct volcanoes. The soil surrounding them is often fertile but can be stony, hilly and difficult to cultivate. The dead volcanoes provide the unusual backdrop to this painting of a grove of old olive trees on a terraced hill. They are gnarled and twisted amongst the old stone walls.
