Isolation, solitude, nostalgia with consolation. That's what I draw. I wish a spectator has meditational moment and face oneself through serene image like abstract landscape. ’ I painted what I want to see. Watercolour on hanji paper was attached material to me cause my hometown is lakeside in Korea. Moreover, it was proper to express ephemerality and nostalgia. I started to use silk after I came back to Korea. It is less rough and more delicate. I consider materiality reflect my condition as much as the painting itself. “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” This is my favourite quote of Oscar Wilde. There are someone watching stars in the gutter reminds me ‘De Profundis’, the title of the book he wrote in prison. It is the beauty include solitude, despair and hope. I hope to work deliver the beauty that embrace marginalised one. My mom is Buddhist monk and it is influenced my attitude and philosophy like existentialism. The ephemerality brings sublime as well as existential crisis. The heart sutra says everything is nothing but it is not in vain because it is sincere. I believe that art is not in vain in parallel. I keep to try deliver the beauty beyond clear sight through blurred images that cannot find out where and when. dusk or dawn. That is why I paint abstract landscape.

I get consolations from sceneries like dusk, horizon and flowing water because they remind me of ephemerality. Nothing lasts forever. The ephemerality brings sublime as well as an existential crisis. The aesthetic of impermanence embraces my works. The surface of the medium denotes the essence of fading away. Silk allows water to permeate and spread softly. The mood of the moment is significant rather than representing an accurate landscape. Abstract or blurred images beyond clear sight invite a spectator to have one’s scene.
