ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Oom Hennie lives in the Karoo. I just loved painting him because he has such character and a beautiful expression. He is blind in his one eye. Oom Hennie was painted from a photo taken by my friend Theunis de Bruin who is a wonderful South African Photographer and gave me permission to use his beautiful photo. Oom Hennie is painted on board and before painting him I treated the board with several layers of paint to give it a bit of texture. I enjoy painting on this material especially for portraits as it blends in the colors beautiful. I enjoy realism and find this a challenge especially with this painting and all the wrinkles. This painting is framed in a beautiful frame, but can be sold without the frame as well.
