About The Artwork

The subject matter features an old and rusty hinge of a solid off road vehicle. The vehicle is a metaphor of a persons life with the hinge representing the opportunity to open and close new chapters of life.

I don't set out to produce art about one subject or another. I'm never without a creative thought as I am constantly being inspired by what is around me and sometimes the thoughts are left in my mind and other times they develop into more in-depth ideas and detailed images. Having suffered a stroke some 4 years ago that effected my right hand (painting hand) I have faced many challenges and a hard journey since to get back to my former self - through sheer grit and determination and my passion for painting. I didn't set out to be a contemporary artist or to create artwork relating to social commentary but over the years, as my portfolio styles naturally developed from a photographic illustrative style to looser acrylics and people started to review my work at International Exhibitions, the descriptions started to emerge and I began to notice a pattern I hadn't intended but am now pleased with. My work tends to focus on the bigger environment, the relationships between man and woman, their natural recourse, the development of bigger and bigger cities, more and more people, noise, beauty and the consequences this has on nature. At school in Swansea, my passion was to be creative and I think my obsession with depicting life’s beauty started there... During my years in London where I exhibited and also became a critic at private shows, the exposure to various subject matters and styles of art has played a significant influence in my creative approach today. Some of my art is about the strategy of form and colour that represents human nature. And since I've always been a fan of abstract art - a new strand of work seems to have emerged depicting a very 'simplistic' side to a complex life. None of it was intentional - it all developed and evolved over time. People often asked for my artist statement so I needed to do one but I've never liked to explain a certain piece of work - if you've made a picture and that's how you wanted it to be - hopefully it can speak for itself and whatever it says to the viewer - it's the right message because there isn't a wrong and a right message. Each person takes something a little different from the same picture and I'm happy with that.
