About The Artwork

Monte-Carlo is a country full of history, fame and glory. This painting was done “en plain-air” like the old masters did once upon the time. The view is taken from the rooftop of my atelier near the Prince’s Palace in Monaco Ville. It shows the glitter and shiny atmosphere of the beginning of the summer of this tiny country. I used a special gilding technique with gold and silver leaf to express it. This large oil painting will bring an exquisite aura to any home as the colours and the gold leaf will change with the lightning during the day.

Originally from Moldova, Liudmila Sun studied Fine Arts and Design at home as well as in Italy (Milan), enriching her artistic skills everywhere she travelled. Now she is based in Monaco, where, inspired by the evocative landscapes of the Côte d’Azur, she captures “en plein-air” unique moments of colour and light. She has rediscovered a long-lost technique: painting on gold and silver. She spreads a thin layer of gold or silver leaf on the canvas and paints on it: the resulting colours are intensified compared to the ordinary, albeit already bright, effect of oil. In her works, palette knife technique for extra-fine oil paintings, combined with gilding and symbolism leads the Impressionist style to a new level of perception. Liudmila Sun’s art is refined, exquisite and distinguished by the brightness, intrinsic to the painting technique, and evoked by the light, modelled and portrayed on the canvas in its various manifestations. From the fascination and interest in the effects of sunlight, the artist has derived her own pseudonym, Sun.
