30 x 30 x 1.5 Original oil painting of a blue tit (English woodland and garden bird) seen against a beautiful curtain of shimmering colour. The background has been blurred to look out of focus whilst the bird has been painted in sharp detail to look as if his wings are in motion. It is semi abstract in once sense and wildlife 'traditional' in another. The idea was to make it look like a woodland with trees and possibly a lake glittering through the trees. The little bird is a bird I often see on my walks in Sussex and on the South Downs (the south of England). They are blue and yellow and very small and they make me happy the way they busily flit around and somehow blend into the background despite their bright colouring. They are a jewel of nature and I wanted to this painting to be a tribute to them for delighting me. Painted in vibrant oil colour on deep edge canvas with the edges painted to blend into the front.

My name is Gill Bustamante and I paint large contemporary landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. They are mostly inspired by the Sussex landscapes I see around me where I live. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Nouveau and something I term ‘memory impressionism’. This is where I go walking somewhere rural, look at and absorb the things I see and experience, and then come home and try to capture an 'echo' of the place from memory, including any wildlife I may have seen. I completed a fine art degree in Brighton in 1983 and I have painted since I was three. It always makes me happy along with cake, bunnies, driving erratically, BBC 6 music and totally irreverent comedy. Website: www.gillbustamante.com
