About The Artwork

Our Shores, Basking Shark captures a beautiful Basking Shark and a surfer sharing the Cornish shore in the clear beautiful aqua waters. Basking sharks are an endangered species and are protected species in UK waters and there are strict rules how close boats and other watercraft can go. Sadly, this protection doesn’t stop them from being victims of pollution, entanglement in fishing gear and plastic pollution due to the way they filter feed on plankton at the surface. You should always give them plenty of space if you find yourself sharing the water with them, at least 4 metres away. We need to act now to clean up our act otherwise we will sadly lose them altogether. Globally shark fishing is a massive issue. It is estimated 100 million sharks are killed each year, over the last 50 years there has been a 70% decline in shark populations. Sharks are essential to a healthy ecosystem in the sea and must be further protected here in the UK and globally. Original watercolour on paper comes mounted in a ice white mount with backing board in a recyclable presentation bag. Mount size is A3 with an aperture of 22 x 34 cm. Please note this is unframed. I am donating 10% of all profit to Surfers Against Sewage who are a campaigning charity that inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife.

I am a visual artist, who captures the fluidity of the ocean realm focusing on the movement of water the abstraction of light and the sea creatures that inhabit this realm. Having spent many years living by the ocean and travelling the world I draw on this inspiration in my work. There is an echo of conservation and I address current issues that are affecting the natural world. I experiment with the ever changing state of the ocean, the ebb and flow of the tide, the intense and subtle colours the weather creates on and through the water. I am passionate about marine life and I use my illustration skills to represent them in my artwork. I use different mediums like watercolour, gouache and acrylics mixed with various textures to keep my work fresh. I experiment with different viewpoints of below the surface, in the curl of the wave, aerial and diving into the underwater world. I am originally from rural Warwickshire where my parents nurtured my love for Art and the nature world. After working as an Art & Design Teacher for many years I have now made the switch to working as a full time visual artist. I am a competent water sports enthusiast mainly focusing on bodyboarding, surfing and scuba diving. I am also a qualified PADI Scuba Diving Instructor and I have dived and surfed in many different locations around the world. I am now based in London where I live with my husband and our two young boys.
